Frazer Knocked Out Of Notre Dame Quarterback Battle, Signal-Caller To Transfer After Learning He Won't Start
South Bend, IN. (AHN) - After learning he will not be in the running for the starting quarterback position at Notre Dame, Zach Frazer is leaving the university.
Frazer, a blue-chip recruit who passed for over 3,647 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior at Mechanicsburg (Pa.), is being passed over for a shot at the position by true freshman Jimmy Clausen, redshirt freshman Demetrius Jones and junior Evan Sharpley.
While that trio is now expected to compete for the starting position for the Fighting Irish, Frazer will shop his signal-calling services to Rutgers, UConn, Miami, Louisville and East Carolina. Those colleges have all expressed interest in the strong-armed slinger.
Frazer is expected to have visits to all five of those colleges this week, as the college football season approaches in late August.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis whittled down his quarterback choice to Jimmy Clausen, Jones and Sharpley about 10 days ago after evaluating spring practices and film of the four players.
"Evan ran the operation the best, Jimmy Clausen threw the ball the best and Demetrius made the most plays," Weis told Irishillillustrated.com.
