Frazer to join Huskies
Zach Frazer, a quarterback who as a high schooler was once ranked as the 12th-best player in the nation, will transfer from Notre Dame to UConn. The 6-foot-5, 226-pound Frazer picked the Huskies over Cincinnati, multiple sources said Sunday.
A native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Frazer threw for 3,674 yards as a junior in high school, a Pennsylvania record. Not long after, USA Today named him among the top 15 players nationally.
Frazer did not appear in any games for the Irish last season as a true freshman and he was 0-for-4 in the team's spring game. Incoming freshman Jimmy Clausen appears to be the likely successor to Brady Quinn, thus Frazer's desire to find playing time elsewhere.
Frazer, who was briefly recruited by UConn and head coach Randy Edsall while in high school, made two visits to UConn in the last month.
Frazer, 19, must sit out the upcoming season but will have three years of eligibility left beginning with the 2008 season.
