Pitt Football Non-Conference Schedule Announced
Pitt's 2008 football schedule includes home games against Iowa, West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers and a renewal of the rivalry against Notre Dame.
The Panthers play at Notre Dame on Nov. 1, the 64th game between the schools but the first since the Fighting Irish's 42-21 victory at Heinz Field in 2005. Irish coach Charlie Weis and Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt both debuted in that game.
Notre Dame is one of Pitt's most-played opponents, with the Irish holding a 44-18-1 edge.
Pitt's other non-conference away game will be Oct. 18 at Navy, which upset the Panthers 48-45 on Oct. 10.
Pitt also plays Big East opponents Cincinnati, Connecticut, Syracuse and South Florida on the road.
The home schedule looks to be an upgrade from that of last season, when Cincinnati was the only one of Pitt's seven opponents to be ranked at the time it played at Heinz Field.
Pitt also plays two other non-conference home games, against Bowling Green in the season opener on Aug. 30 and Buffalo on Sept. 6.
The Iowa game, the first between the Big Ten and Big East schools in 56 years, will be Sept. 20.
Dates and times for the other games will be announced later.
